We are proud to offer the Lyrical Pre-K Academy @ First Baptist Church-West for the Fall 2022 semester. Why the name "Lyrical?" Because the definition of lyrical is "relating to music, art and literature." And that's what this program is all about. Below you will find some of the most frequently asked questions about our newest program. But feel free to call 704.372.3742 or email us at email@example.com for more information.
OPERATING HOURS & DAYS
Our start date is Tuesday, September 6, 2022. We will follow the open/close schedule of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, as well as CMS' inclement weather schedule. In short, if CMS is open, we're open. If CMS is closed, we're closed.
Instruction is from 9am-3pm. Before and afterschool available from 7:30am-9am and 3pm-6pm.
We have selected the Curiosity Corner Pre-K Curriculum offered by the Success For All Foundation. We picked this curriculum because it is a comprehensive early childhood curriculum designed to help children at risk of school failure. It places a special emphasis on children's language and literacy skills, while also helping children develop the attitudes, skills and knowledge for later school success. The curriculum has weekly thematic units that incorporate literacy, math, social studies, culture, etc., and each day children will learn using activities that build on each other. Parents also will be encouraged to participate through in-school and out-of-school activities.
The Curiosity Corner Curriculum includes:
- A strong focus on oral language and vocabulary development.
- Opportunities for student interaction and partner work
- Integration of socio-emotional skills and strategies
- Strategies to help students thoroughly learn procedures and cooperative learning structures.
- Integration with Sesame Street videos.
Through our partnerships with Arts+ and the Charlotte Symphony, we will have fine arts lessons in music appreciation and art at least four days--some times five days--a week. Most lessons/presentations will be 45 minutes to one hour each session. Enrichment also will include daily physical education/play time as well as STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) activities.
Students will receive a light breakfast (for those attending before school), a hot lunch and an afternoon snack. We will issue monthly menus but parents are welcome to send their own lunches for their children.
No cost for families that meet certain income guidelines. Those who do pay will find our rates are very affordable.
We are able to do this through a grant from Mecklenburg County to help expand high-quality Pre-K education in our community.
Our initial enrollment is slated to be two classes of 4 year olds and one class of 3 year olds for a maximum of 30-35 students.
